Belly Love : Furniture Design

Designer Florence Jaffrain has created a sofa covered in glow-in-the-dark fibres, which moves as if it’s breathing. Belly Love – 
Prototype

In its shape, Belly Love is directly inspired by Sarcophyton elegans, a soft coral found in the Indian Ocean. Transiting from the tropical reef to the Parisian living room, it retains its elegance and increases its comfort quotient, becoming both paradise of the senses and vessel for the body.

Thanks to a new textile material especially created by ENSAIT in Roubaix using photoluminescent components and microcapsules incorporated in the fibre, “Belly Love” recreates the magical luminosity of the ocean bottom, while diffusing the pleasant fragrance of essential oils.

The sarcophyton’s tentacles become soft bristles inviting caresses and when we rest our head on the piece, the beating of its heart gives an idyllic cadence to this waking dream.

“Belly Love” breathes as well, and we do well to wonder if it is a mechanism hidden under the memory foam or a genuine life force that animates this membrane.

Jaime Hayon @ Milan Furniture Fair

Jaime Hayon. It’s hard to believe that Spanish artist and designerJaime Hayon only started his individual career in 2004. His bold, individual style has been paramount in the current trend to transcend the borders between art and design, while his impressive client list includes Arquitect Edition, Benetton, David Gill, Adidas and Camper. The large-scale sculpture (pictured) is being made for his Bisazza installation at the Superstudio piu during the fair. The elements themselves represent Hayon’s personal cosmology but the installation is intended to break with the traditional use of the Bisazza mosaics and explore the possibilities of the elements. (read more.....)

Louis seating series from Interstudio

This is a classic design finished in a high-tech polyurethane skin, which means it's easy to clean, comfortable and impervious to sun and weather. The Louis range is great for restaurants, bars, beer gardens, around swimming pools and backyards. The pieces are available in any Pantone colour, with or without arms.

Baroque-inspired bench seats are available in a small and large size, with ornate trimmings featured on the single, two-seater and bench options.

Designed by Six Inch's Pieter Jamart, the Louis range uses a unique foam coating technique, which replaces normal fabrics and upholstery. Instead of using leather or fabric, the product's flexible coating is sprayed directly onto high-density foam. The coating looks and feels great, is waterproof, and has no stitches.
