Jaime Hayon @ Milan Furniture Fair

Jaime Hayon. It’s hard to believe that Spanish artist and designerJaime Hayon only started his individual career in 2004. His bold, individual style has been paramount in the current trend to transcend the borders between art and design, while his impressive client list includes Arquitect Edition, Benetton, David Gill, Adidas and Camper. The large-scale sculpture (pictured) is being made for his Bisazza installation at the Superstudio piu during the fair. The elements themselves represent Hayon’s personal cosmology but the installation is intended to break with the traditional use of the Bisazza mosaics and explore the possibilities of the elements. (read more.....)

Louis seating series from Interstudio

This is a classic design finished in a high-tech polyurethane skin, which means it's easy to clean, comfortable and impervious to sun and weather. The Louis range is great for restaurants, bars, beer gardens, around swimming pools and backyards. The pieces are available in any Pantone colour, with or without arms.

Baroque-inspired bench seats are available in a small and large size, with ornate trimmings featured on the single, two-seater and bench options.

Designed by Six Inch's Pieter Jamart, the Louis range uses a unique foam coating technique, which replaces normal fabrics and upholstery. Instead of using leather or fabric, the product's flexible coating is sprayed directly onto high-density foam. The coating looks and feels great, is waterproof, and has no stitches.

Philippe Starck Kitchens by Warendorf

Ushering in a new era of contemporary kitchen design, these Philippe Starck Kitchens by Warendorf are beautiful and functional designs that never fail to surprise. The Library kitchen brings the rich, earthy and woody atmosphere of a library into your kitchen, centered on a monoblock framed by a wall-high set of shelves and a sliding ladder. The Duality kitchen design delivers two options: a traditional wall piece or a detached kitchen island suited to your architecture and your style.

NATURE FACTORY BY SUPPOSE

A maze of industrial PVC piping ‘grows’ like branches in all directions at the 65-m2 Diesel Denim Gallery in Aoyama. The installation, entitled Nature Factory, was conceived by designer Makoto Tanijiri of Suppose Design Office. Pipes hug the wall like vines, cover the ceiling like leaves, stand erect in groups like tree trunks and have a total length of 1 km. The shadows they cast on white display elements are like those found beneath the spreading limbs of a tree on a sunny day, although some of the shadows are simply paintings made by Shuhei Nakamura. The theme is the union of the organic and the inorganic, as represented by the suggestion of a tree and the industrial tubing, respectively. Tanijiri, who established his office nine years ago, has completed more than 60 intriguing housing projects. His creative energy crosses the lines between genres and countries, continuing to surprise his audience. (design. Suppose Design Office)

Feather or Leaf?

On first glimpse I had the Ivy Chair confused as one draped in a spray of feathers, but a closer look revealed it was swathed in enigmatic white leaves. Sign of purity? Poetic? Nay I think eccentric and exotic. Almost like bringing home a shower of your raked treasure from the garden and trying out a DIY project. Whatever! From contemporary interiors point of view, the Ivy Chair in white (and maybe in black for Takashi) will be perfect!

AvantGarde Architecture

The Q-House is located in Northen Spain and it was designed by asensio_mah in collaboration with JMAguirre Aldaz and it was finished in May 2009. The building is organized in three bands that are arranged around a central circulation core. These three bands maintain a prevailing orientation in the northeast-southwest direction to secure maximum daylight in every room. While the bands configure and organize the different rooms, the circulation core underpins a switchback pattern of shifting orientations with the gradual vertical movement through the house.
